LEO High Angle/Event Coverage
$550.00
2 day course
Location: Sierra 1 Site (Heber, AZ)
Round count: 400 (.308 recommended)
Bolt gun or carbine permitted.
Camping onsite allowed.
Course Overview:
This advanced-level training is designed to equip law enforcement snipers and marksmen with the skills required to engage targets at extended ranges and from elevated or angled positions. Urban and rural operational environments often demand accurate shot placement from rooftops, hillsides, stairwells, or across open terrain—where both distance and angle greatly affect ballistic performance. This course focuses on establishing a refined baseline in long-range fundamentals while developing advanced capability in high-angle shooting.
Course Objectives:
Long-Range Marksmanship Fundamentals:
Precision shooting techniques for targets beyond 500 yards
Advanced body positioning, natural point of aim, and recoil management
Trigger discipline, breathing control, and coordinated shots under stress
Ballistic Theory & Data Development:
External ballistics: bullet drop, drag, wind drift, and spin drift
Building a complete DOPE card and ballistic profile (manual and/or digital)
Use of chronographs, ballistic apps, and environmental sensors (e.g., Kestrel)
High Angle Engagements:
Fundamentals of uphill and downhill shooting mechanics
Using cosine indicators, angle modified range (AMR), and rangefinder integration
Compensating for vertical deviation and shot placement in sloped environments
Urban and Rural Positioning:
Rooftop, tower, and stairwell shooting platforms
Barricade-supported shooting from high ground
Camouflage, concealment, and minimizing shooter signature from height
Practical Exercises & Live Scenarios:
Unknown distance target engagements from high-angle platforms
Cold bore shot tracking and timed drills
Observation and target acquisition in complex backgrounds
Decision-making scenarios with hostage/precision target elements
Performance Outcomes:
Officers will demonstrate first-round accuracy at extended distances and from elevated shooting positions.
Participants will be able to make rapid wind and angle corrections based on observed or calculated data.
Shooters will refine their skills in coordinated sniper/spotter operations and real-world deployment conditions.
Recommended Equipment:
Precision bolt-action or semi-auto rifle (caliber appropriate for long-range engagements)
Optic with elevation turret, holdover reticle, and parallax adjustment
Rear support (bag, monopod), bipod, spotting scope
Kestrel, rangefinder, DOPE book, ballistic calculator/app
